Basic Classroom Etiquette

The classroom is filled with unwritten rules that you are expected to follow when you are gaining an education. Many of these rules are not written out and can be tough for some students to learn which is why many teachers take the time to outline basic classroom etiquette in their classroom syllabus.

Whether it’s high school or college classroom there are certain rules that are expected to be followed. Here’s a look at some of the basic classroom etiquette rules teachers have to line out every year to their students.

When to Answer Questions

The basic understanding in the classroom is if you have a question or wish to answer a question that was asked you raise your hand. This will allow the teacher to notice that you wish to participate.

Using this type of method helps teachers maintain a sense of control over the classroom. However, you will notice that some college classes will adapt an open forum concept which allows students to shout out questions and answers in a controlled fashion. Try to adapt to whatever method is being used by the majority of the students.

Food in the Classroom

Students from the time they are young are taught not to eat in the classroom and this rule can apply to college classes. While there is no written rule that you cannot eat in the classroom it is considered poor etiquette to sit down and eat a full meal while the teacher is teaching and others are trying to learn.

Following these rules will help you fit in and get the most out of your time in the classroom.

Interactive smart technology is being used in classrooms all over the world. Whether it is a math class for third graders or a college level Spanish class, the interactive SMARTboards are helping students learn and grow at accelerated rates. While almost every classroom has the use of a SMARTboard the class that gets the most benefit out of it is a class that teaches a foreign language.

Learning a foreign language can be difficult but with the help of a SMARTboard students are able to learn and understand concepts in a group setting. Here’s a look at exactly how SMARTboards help students learn a foreign language.

Better Student-Teacher Interaction

SMARTboards allow teachers to write notes and other classroom materials on the board with the use of a wireless keyboard. This allows teachers to roam around the classroom and take a more hands-on approach because they are not restricted to only teaching in the front of the class. This hands-on approach is important in foreign language courses because it allows teachers to correct pronunciation and help students out.

Reference Materials

A SMARTboard can also be used to show students various reference materials. In a foreign language classroom this is helpful because students are able to see examples of the language they are learning in action. Newspaper clips, TV news clips and movies can all be played on the screen and students can see the language they are learning in action.

SMARTboards can help students all over the world take a more hands-on approach to learning any foreign language.
